Airtel to offer unlimited international data roaming plan

The last time Bharti Airtel was in the news, was only recently when the popular service provider's chief, Sunil Mittal was quoted as saying that a rise in the prices of spectrum may have a bearing on the tariffs, too, in the long run. Now, however, they're back in the news post launching their 1-day Bridge DataRoamUnlimited scheme, which will enable its postpaid users to get unlimited data usage while roaming across Asia Pacific for USD 10 per day, reports Times of India. Reportedly, the initiative has been taken by Bridge Alliance with 11 member operator networks, which include Airtel across Asia Pacific.

Bridge DataRoamUnlimited is a flat rate data roaming plan on a daily basis. It provides flexibility for users roaming in 11 Bridge Alliance member operator networks, namely Australia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, Philippines, Macau, Singapore and Thailand. "Airtel's launch of Bridge DataRoamUnlimited takes the alliance to the next level of expanded coverage and presence in the region," Bridge Alliance acting Chief Executive Officer and Vice-President (Infrastructure & Operations) Ken Wee said in a statement.

Lately, Bharti Airtel revealed that it had selected Nokia Siemens Networks to build and manage its TD-LTE network (TD-LTE is a 4G mobile broadband technology) in Maharashtra. The TD-LTE technology assists in delivering faster Internet access and also supports video streaming and high-definition video conferencing. Moreover, the commercial TD-LTE services will be launched later this year, offering Bharti Airtel subscribers in Maharashtra improved and consistent network coverage and faster response times.

Nokia had also announced its pan-India launch of the mobile wallet service. It declared nationwide availability of the Airtel Money, which will expand to 300 key cities after a successful launch in Delhi NCR and Chennai. One has to load cash on their mobile devices, to be used to pay utility bills, recharges, at about 7000+ merchant outlets and more. This mobile plan can be activated by Airtel customers via SMS or by contacting the customer care executive
