RIM acquires adaptive radiofrequency technology for BlackBerry

MUMBAI: BlackBerry maker Research in Motion has acquired an adaptive radio-frequency technology of Paratek Microwave Inc.

The technology will enable mobile-handset to enhance call-quality and battery life. The financial detail of the purchase has not been disclosed yet.

Paratek is a leader in antenna technology and their skill sets complement RIMs in-house mobile technology expertise. The work by Parateks talented radio frequency engineers will contribute to our future device designs, according to the company statement.

Paratek based in New Hampshire is funded by a string of venture capital investors including Polaris Ventures and Europe's biggest chip maker STMicroelectronics. The company has developed a thin-film material to produce integrated circuits and other components that improve the performance of mobile phones, while cutting down on the number and size of components such as antennas.
