Is Asus Eee Pad MemoIs Asus Eee Pad Memo 370T variant the alleged Google Nexus tablet? 370T variant the alleged Google Nexus tablet?

We have been hearing about the Google Nexus tablet for months now and the latest rumor hints that a slightly modified version of Asus Eee Pad Memo 370T might launch as the Google experience tablet.

According to a report in Android&Me, Google was so impressed with Memo 370T that they approached Asus to see if they could reduce the bill of materials and reach that magical $199 price point. To remind you, when Asus showcased Memo 370T at CES, they said it would be priced at $250; so bringing down it to $199 isn’t going to be that hard.

What is more intriguing that we did not hear a single thing from Asus during Mobile World Congress despite the fact they were quite excited about it at CES. So, it is very possible that 370T has been shelved to turn it into a Google experience tablet.

Android&Me suggests that Asus might reduce the internal memory of the device to bring down the manufacturing cost and consumers will have access to the rumored Google Drive to store their content.

Google Nexus tablet will also be the first device to run on Android 4.2. We have heard from a trusted source that Google is going to release Android version 4.2 at Google I/O in June and it will be pre-loaded on the tablet.

According to CES announcement, Asus Eee Pad Memo 370T features Tegra 3 Quad core processor, 7 inch IPS display, 1GB RAM, 8MP rear camera with LED flash and 2MP front camera. It is very possible that we might see some changes in this specs list, when it launches as the Google Nexus tablet.

There is no word on the retail name of the tablet right now; a “Google Play” is circulating around the web based on several domain purchases, but it is highly unlikely. It looks more like the name of an upcoming service from the search engine giant.
